The Top 25 PS4 Games Under $20

These are in no particular order. They’re just great games for great prices! Special thanks to our Facebook fans for contributing to a number of these choices.

1. Life is Strange

Now that it’s finished, Life is Strange can be bought in all of its time traveling five-episode glory for the low price of $19.99. This game is a must if you’re a fan of Telltale Games or the recent King’s Quest series.

Play as Max Caufield and discover your incredible ability to rewind time as you solve an ongoing mystery in your art school and hopefully stop the destruction of your hometown: Arcadia Bay.

2. The Last of Us: Remastered

The Last of Us is right up there with Uncharted as the top PS4 exclusives to get. This post-apocalyptic game brings a new twist on the zombie genre with enemies that are infected with a fungus.

Keep a young girl Ellie safe as you try to escape the quarantine zone and potentially bring hope to a dying world. Incredible graphics, PS4 Pro support, and excellent gameplay make this an absolute must have game if you haven’t played it.

3. Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age may not be quite as good as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it’s just as expansive. This Bioware RPG brings back the good old days of fantasy RPGs and tells a story that spans over a hundred hours or more as you explore its vast world. If you’re a fantasy RPG fan, you can get the base game for as low as $10. That’s a steal!

4. Rocket League

Think soccer, but replace people will high powered cars and make the ball huge. That’s Rocket League, and while it may sound weird, it’s become huge. It’s primarily online multiplayer, but don’t knock it until you’ve managed to slam your car into a giant ball and score a goal.

It’s an incredible feeling and a great game to play in short bursts.

5. Minecraft

What is there to say about Minecraft that hasn’t already been said? This is the game that kickstarted the creative genre of voxel-based graphics and building worlds from scratch. On PS4, it features all the content update you want, support for split-screen.

Ready to build? This is the game to do it in.

6. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor has no right to be as good as it is. This game takes place before the Lord of the Rings movies and stars a Ranger who becomes fused with a spirit after the loss of his family at the hands of the Dark Lord’s minions.

Now his soul is bound to this world, and he keeps coming back. His quest for revenge involves a giant open world map and one of the coolest gameplay systems in recent memory. Known as the Nemesis system, the game keeps track of the orc captains and chiefs you’ve fought.

If you beat them, they’ll just get replaced by a promotion, but they’ll remember if they killed you and they’ll get stronger each time. They all have unique weakness as well, so it feels like a real army you’re going up against and some identifiable bad guys you love to hate.

7. Infamous: Second Son

Infamous is another standout title for PlayStation, and with the PS4 debut, you can jump into the series without having played the previous ones. If you’re lucky enough to have a PS4 Pro, you’ll be able to enjoy this awesome experience in glorious 4K and increased graphics.

I personally played it again on the Pro with a 1080p television and it looked incredible. If you haven’t played, or even if you have, it’s worth getting for this price. Awesome story worth of its own Marvel comic.

8. Mad Max

Normally I would tell you to stay as far as humanly possible from games based on movies, but Mad Max is a strong exception. This one was done by the folks at Avalanche Studios who are best known for their work on Just Cause.

Mad Max takes the same flare they have for open-world gameplay and throws in the classic post-apocalyptic setting. With awesome amounts of car combat and customization, plus some great on-foot exploration and brawls, this game will keep you busy for a long time and it won’t break the bank.

9. Bloodborne

If you’re a fan of Dark Souls, then you’ll be very interested in Bloodborne. Done by the same developers, this PS4 exclusive takes the same punishing gameplay and non-linear design you love, and throws it into a Lovecraftian world with horrific monstrosities and gargantuan bosses.

If you’re a souls fan, it’s a no-brainer, especially at this price.

10. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

Lara Croft has been through a lot of reboots, but the latest one is perhaps her finest hour. Both this title and Rise of the Tomb Raider are part of this latest reboot where grit and graphics are both available in spades.

The third-person gameplay is solid, and the levels are large enough to encourage exploration. It’s a great way to breathe life back into the series and it doesn’t shy away from intense gunfights or particularly gory deaths.

11. Batman: Arkham Knight

The conclusion to Rocksteady’s Batman trilogy of games was a heck of ride, and a gorgeous game in its own right. If you’re a fan of Batman, you owe it to yourself to check this one out, even if the batmobile segments can get a little annoying.

It’s an epic conclusion to the Batman saga started by Rocksteady with Batman: Arkham Asylum, and a great Batman game in its own right. I highly recommend checking it out, especially because the game is going on deep sales for the holidays.

12. Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Call of Duty has been hit and miss in recent years, but the Black Ops games have always been standout for their unique campaigns and great multiplayer. Black Ops III is no exception, with perhaps the most insane Call of Duty campaign ever, and rock-solid multiplayer/zombie options.

With many people having mixed feelings about the new one, why not stick around in the last entry while the community is still strong? Not to mention, this one is PS4 Pro compatible as well.

13. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Uncharted is one of Sony’s Flagship series and this collection brings remastered versions of the first three games into one incredibly affordable package. Between this and Uncharted 4, you’ve got a lot of absolutely stunning adventures to choose from on PS4.

If you haven’t played Uncharted, now’s the time.

14. Song of the Deep

Sometimes it’s important to just wind down and let yourself relax with a fun, but not overly stressful title like Song of the Deep. This is a metroidvania style game that uses a beautiful art style and tells the story of a mariner’s daughter who goes out to find him when he doesn’t come home.

The game is fun and challenging without being difficult. It’s a nice combination that works well for the genre. I’d recommend it for fans of this type of game.

15. Far Cry 4

Far Cry is a great series for shooter fans who want an open-world game that has a ton of activities, vehicles, and explosions. Far Cry 4 takes place in a unique mountain setting with another insane villain and plenty of literal bang for your buck.

Fans of the series should know, this isn’t Far Cry 3 good, but it’s pretty awesome regardless.

16. Ratchet & Clank

Ratchet & Clank is one of the best platforming series to hit gaming, and it looks incredible on PS4. With PS4 Pro compatibility, you’ll notice an improvement as the developers claim a new graphics technique makes the game look better than its ever looked.

It was a steal at $40 when it released, but this reimagining of the first game is an absolute must for less than $20.

17. Darksiders Warmastered Edition

Darksiders is the closest to Zelda you’re going to get on a Sony console, but it’s an excellent take on the formula. You play as the horseman of the apocalypse known as War and try to clear your name after you’re blamed for starting the apocalypse. Whoops?

While it’s not a Zelda killer, the formula works well here and makes for some awesome dungeons and boss fights.

18. Little Big Planet 3

Little Big Planet is a great cooperative game with a lot of longevity considering you can make and play other people’s levels. The gameplay fairly standard platforming, but the creativity on show makes it charming and unique enough to stand out.

With support for up to four players and local co-op, this is a great game for friends and family alike.

19. Until Dawn

As a huge fan of interactive stories like the ones produced by Telltale, I was pumped for Until Dawn. It looked like a horror version of Heavy Rain and it turned out even better. Try to survive the night as a group of friends stranded in a lodge high on a snowy mountain.

A killer is in their midst, and every choice you make has a “butterfly effect” on the rest of the game. All the characters can survive or die based on your choices.

20. Wolfenstein: The New Order

I’ve been singing Wolfenstein’s praises since the game released. This single player shooter has a phenomenal campaign set in an alternate WWII where the Nazis won and you are part of a resistance try to take them down.

It’s a simple setup, but the 12+ hour length and phenomenon writing/acting make this a standout title for fans of story-heavy shooters like Bioshock.

21. The Evil Within

Shinji Mikami is best known as the father of Resident Evil, but The Evil Within is his new brainchild and boy is it a scary one. While the game can lean a little too hard on the action side of things, overall it’s a scary good time with a mind-bending story.

Resident Evil fans will find a lot to love, as will horror fans.

22. The Order: 1886

While The Order: 1886 was hit with divisive reviews at launch, there’s no denying how beautiful the game looks and how unique the premise is. Set in an alternate Victorian-era London, you play as knights of the round table who survive by drinking a special elixir to heal their wounds.

Their enemies? Werewolves, and lots of them. This is alternate history done right and absolutely worth $20.

23. God of War III Remastered

It’s no mistake that so many of these titles are PS4 exclusive, and here’s another! God of War III was an epic conclusion to the trilogy, and it looks like Sony isn’t finished yet. That being said, the PS4 remake lets you topple Olympus in style!

The upgraded graphics and improved frame rate make this the definitive version of an already epic game.

24. Mortal Kombat X

Even if you’re not a fan of fighting games, there’s a lot to like about Mortal Kombat X. The return to form, combined with excellent graphics and a surprisingly good story mode make this a must for fans and a great option for casual fighters.

Oh and finishers, lots and lots of finishers.

25. Alien: Isolation

Last, but absolutely not least, we have Alien: Isolation. This game is objectively terrifying as you must make your way through a space station while being stalked by an incredibly smart Xenomorph. If it gets a look at you, you’re done for.

The tension is palpable, and it’s a great homage to classic Alien movies if you’re a fan.
